There’s verve in this wine – its youth delivers bright red cherry aromas and a brambled pop on the palate. A luscious, juicy mouth feel makes this pinot approachable and super easy to drink. The finish is fresh, with a subtly spicy edge. A wonderful snapshot of the potential for world class pinot noir that exists in Monterey County, a Central California enclave where proximity to the Pacific and chilly winds that rush in from the bay create ideal growing conditions. The last add to Mr. Smith’s Symphony Collection featuring winemaker Joshua Klapper, this flirty pinot is fun to drink young. There’s fantastic ageing potential here, though, thanks to a balance of flavors and solid structure, which should allow for savory richness and depth over the next five to 10 years. A perfect picnic pinot and a solid match for grilled white meats, like pork and chicken, and any thin crust pizza that’s just come off the grill.
